Martha’s Vineyard is a carefully considered private residence that replaces an existing dwelling with a home of enduring architectural quality and environmental sensitivity.

PFGDesign were appointed as architects to reimagine the site’s potential — transforming a constrained plot into a refined, contemporary home that responds instinctively to its topography and setting. The design is delicately anchored into the hillside, allowing the building to emerge naturally from the landscape. By working meticulously within existing root protection zones, the scheme preserves the established trees that define the character of the site, ensuring the architecture coexists harmoniously with its surroundings.

Materiality was fundamental to our approach. A restrained and contextually responsive palette was selected to reflect the tones and textures of the local vernacular, grounding the dwelling within its setting while expressing a quietly confident contemporary identity. The interplay of natural materials and carefully framed views creates a home that feels both sheltered and expansive — intimately connected to the landscape, light, and season.
